Shortly after the All-Star break, the Colorado Rockies were 1 game out of first place in the NL West. They were coming up hard and fast on the division leading Padres. All the media talking heads were throwing their names around to be in post season contention – including me. They looked to have things well in hand. Well, not so fast.
The Rockies now find themselves in a 6.5 games back hole. They have lost 4 games in a row. Looking almost nothing like they did after the All-Star break, the Rockies have steadily fallen back to 4th place in the NL West. The Giants have pulled to within 3 games of the Padres while the Dodgers are only 0.5 ahead of the Rockies.
The Phillies have put the hurt on the Rockies in this latest series. Last night’s game ended with the Rockies losing 10-2. It was a struggle to just plate those 2 runs. The offense has been all but stagnant against the Phillies who are trying to get back into the NL East race with the Braves.
The Rockies next series is with the Pirates, one would think they could take this series. The Padres get the Dodgers for their next series while the Giants get the Marlins. The Rockies could make up some ground but it’s going to take a lot of wins and right now the Rockies have to be asking wins, where for art thou?
