The baseball gods are against Hamilton

Daemons, Gods and other Spirits
About a week ago, I guided Rangers Fan through the anxiety and possible panic attacks that were setting in due to the fact that Josh Hamilton’s right knee could very well be on its last thread following his second cortisone shot of the season. I mentioned how Hamilton, the current batting leader in the majors (.361), has carried the team on his back since June, hitting hitting .408 while the rest of the team is hitting a combined .262. and how his potential absence would drastically affect the Rangers’ post-season run. Well, Rangers Fan, there’s nothing I can say to help you through this next bomb: Hamilton is out indefinitely.

“I have no clue when I’ll be back,” Hamilton said Sunday. “I really don’t. Your guess is as good as mine.”

This is what Hamilton told reporters the day after his team’s 12-4 loss to the Minnesota Twins. Hamilton was injured during the third inning of Saturdays game when he hit the center-field wall and bruised the ribs on his left side while fielding a Delmon Young fly ball. Hamilton had no other comment on his condition, other than the fact that it had him feeling “like I have been in a car wreck.”

Although x-rays on the ribs were negative and the Rangers listed Hamilton as day to day, Hamilton didn’t seem so confident in a quick return.

“Right now I want to get to a point as quickly as possible where I can swing, where I can do other things on the field [and] not going to make me have any setbacks. When I get to that point, I’ll get after it.”

Rangers Fan can only hope that Hamilton we’ll “get after it” soon. Even with their All-Star slugger in their lineup, the Rangers have only won three of their last ten games. Hamilton may be a man of faith, but the baseball gods continue to force their ill will upon him.
