Oswalt and Nationals Update

by Deborah on June 25, 2011

Updating on articles I posted yesterday involving the Nationals manager situation and the Phillies Roy Oswalt’s back injury.

The Phillies didn’t even wait for the scheduled Monday MRI to put Oswalt on the 15-day DL.  The team already knows that he has 2 degenerated back disks.  They know that he is the kind of player who will say he can go, even if it’s not something he should do.  They also know that if the MRI on Monday shows bulging disks, it could possibly spell the end of Oswalt’s baseball career.

Down In The Back

by Deborah on June 24, 2011

Coming from the South, I often heard the phrase from my older relatives, “I’m down in the back.”  This had the meaning of having a back problem, pain, soreness, something worse.  It just meant that there was something wrong with their back.  Roy Oswalt of the Phillies is once again, down in the back.

Not the first time for Oswalt and probably not the last, he is about a step away from heading to the DL once again this season for back problems.  He spent time on the 15-day DL earlier in the season with low back inflammation.  It has been an ongoing issue for him.  The Phillies have retained their hold on the top of the NL East despite his absence and the less than stellar fill in by Kyle Kendrick, but the Braves are inching ever closer to the top spot and another DL stint for Oswalt may not be what the Phillies need right now.

The dust has settled today as Roy Oswalt finally decided to quit dragging out his rendition of LeBron James’ “Decision” and waive his no-trade clause in order to be dealt to Philadelphia. Who could have seen that coming? Without question, it’s the most surprising trade of 2010. Yeah, thanks for telling us what we already new was a foregone conclusion, Roy. Houston’s former ace is being shipped to the city of brotherly love for left-handed starter J.A. Happ and two prospects, outfielder Anthony Gose and shortstop Jonathan Villar.

“The hardest part about it is cleaning out my locker. I’ve been in the same place for 10 years and having to say goodbye and clean out the locker is the toughest part,” Oswalt said.

No Roy For You

Roy Oswalt.
It’s looking more and more like the Phillie will get their hands on another Roy.  This time Roy Oswalt.  As a Braves fan, I’m here to tell you, one Roy is enough for anybody.  They have reached their limit on Roy’s.

Just a few short days ago, the Braves were 7 games up on the Phillies….7.  This morning that lead is down to 3.5.  The Phillies are getting healthier by the day and now with it all but certain that Roy Oswalt is coming to the team, the Braves and their fans have much to be worried about.  This weekend the Braves get the Reds and the Phillies get the Nationals and quite possibly Oswalt.    Braves fans everywhere are contemplating committing Hara Kiri.
