Are the Astros really going to move to the AL like I wrote would be such a good idea way back in March: http://www.baseballticketsonline.org/baseball-imbalances/?
Will Darvish come to the US? How much will it cost? Is he worth it? (I believe he has potential to be the best Japanese import since Ichiro….)
Will the Mets do anything that is even remotely exciting this off season? Are we going to end up in last place next year?
Is Jose Reyes really a 100 million dollar player? Please see Carl Crawford before you answer. Please also think, is anybody really a 100 million dollar player? Read more... (302 words, estimated 1:12 mins reading time)
The Mets make me sad. I was going to say mad just for the alliteration but sad is more accurate. I read the latest baseball trade rumors and just plain sigh. The Marlins have apparently started the bidding for Reyes at six years and 90 million. The Mets don’t want to go over four years. Would Reyes come back to the Mets at four years and 100 million? Possibly. Would the Mets make that offer, most likely not. On one hand I can’t blame the Mets for not wanting to go more than four years with Reyes. The guy gets hurt a lot. Early in his career he seemed to get hurt just rolling out of bed in the morning. I don’t see Reyes as one of these players who can hang on for many years and be productive. Still it will hurt some to lose him. Read more... (380 words, estimated 1:31 mins reading time)
Yea for the Mets, they have now reeled off three wins in row. Yesterday they swept a double header from the league leading Phillies beating them 2-1 and 6-3. The Mets have now crept to within 22 games of first place and now are just a mere 1.5 games out of third. Let’s go Mets! (Can you tell I am being sarcastic….) Sorry I’m a bit scarred by this season of downs and occasional ups and more downs. The good news is the Mets have clinched a no worse than forth place finish this year. The Mets do have an outside shot are third, but it probably ain’t going to happen. I guess it’s kind of nice that the Mets are ending the season kind of hot. Of course even if the Mets win out the season they still finish bellow .500. Not exactly a bang up year. Read more... (379 words, estimated 1:31 mins reading time)
First off, hats off to Mariano Rivera, he recorded a save yesterday (well today actually on the East Coast) in the Yankees 3-2 win over the Seattle Mariners. Okay, normally a save isn’t all that noteworthy but yesterday’s save was Mo’s 600th of his career. Mo is now only the second closer in history to record that many. (And we’re not counting his 42 in the playoffs.) Really great for a guy who only has one pitch. Two things, first Mariano doesn’t show any signs of slowing down. Second, not only does he have a claim as “best reliever ever” he may be able to make a case for best pitcher of his generation. His record 1037 games pitched, 1207 innings, 933 hits, 274 walks, 1106 Ks, a whip of 1.00 and an ERA of 2.22. Read more... (351 words, estimated 1:24 mins reading time)
One of Yogi Berra’s more famous saying is, “It ain’t over to it’s over.” Which often makes great sense in games and over the longer run pennant races. But for the Mets sadly even though it ain’t technically over it is over. The Mets are currently 64 and 68 so they have 30 games left. If the Mets (who have won four in row) go on the biggest winning streak in major league baseball history and win out the season that still only gives them 94 wins. It’s going to take more than 94 wins to win the NL East since the Phillies already have 84. I guess it’s conceivable that 94 wins could net them a wild card, say the Braves play one game under .500 the rest of the season that would give them 93 wins. And while the Braves could finish the season with a .500 run, not even the most wide eyed optimistic Mets fan even expects the Mets to go 20-10 over the last month. Read more... Been thinking about next year a lot. Truthfully it doesn’t look much better for the Mets for next year. If the Mets lose Jose Reyes they will be a much different team. Thing is if the Mets keep Jose, while they will be a better team I still don’t see much promise. Okay, there is some promise, Ike Davis should be back at first. We could probably move Tejada to second. Daniel Murphy should also be back. The good news is the guy can hit. The bad news is the Mets don’t have a position for him and so far he’s having trouble staying on the field. More on the good news side, Luca Duda is showing he can play in the majors. More on the bad news side, his best position is first which is Ike Davis’ position. Sadly David Wright has been quite average since the Mets moved to City. Read more... Make no doubt about it the Mets are now bad again. Since that fateful day they lost Jose Reyes and Daniel Murphy the team has been in a tailspin. I believe at the time they were a whopping four games over .500. I didn’t think they’d make the playoffs especially since they were Beltran-less but I thought they’d be fun to watch and have a shot at staying over .500. They would be fun to watch. Sadly since that day they have sorted imploded they are now seven under .500. They are still interesting to watch but I wouldn’t call it fun. There have been a couple of bright spots. Read more... Apparently all it took for the Mets to start playing well was for my family and I to leave the country for two weeks. Outside of a lopsided loss to the Texas Rangers and two tough loses to the Yankees (one on a bad call on Reyes) the Mets played really well these last two weeks. I was happy to see the Mets continue to play well as I returned to the states and the Mets headed out the West Coast. Read more... (366 words, estimated 1:28 mins reading time)
Even though Brandon Nimmo was drafted by the Mets in this year’s first year player draft at 13, he still has some unfinished business in the American Legion baseball program. Nimmo is still leading the way on his Cheyenne Wyoming American Legion baseball team showing why he was drafted by the Mets.
This weekend Nimmo is playing with this Cheyenne Wyoming Post 6 American Legion baseball team in the Billings, Montana Legion UAS/Fleetwood tournament. Nimmo has been helping to lead his team to wins showing all the reasons why the Mets drafted him so high. On Friday, Nimmo helped his team by blasting a huge 3 run homer to help them to an 11-6 victory over the Laurel Montana Dodgers. Read more... (322 words, 1 image, estimated 1:17 mins reading time)

Okay the Mets started June out losing to the Pirate 9-3 but then beating the Pirates 9-8. Then they lost one to the Braves 6-3 but then reeled off three wins in row then five out of six then eight out ten to creep back to .500. I was starting to feel good about the Mets. I didn’t think they were going to catch the evil Phillies but I thought they had a chance to be in it for the wild card after all beside the Phillies there really are no super teams in the National League this year.
