The only thing this mit ever caught was a bad case of “The Sucks”.
I’ve heard some bizarre tales in my 32 years, but none so bizarre as this.
The Milwaukee Brewers are going to put a statue of Bud Selig outside Miller Park. Yeah, THAT Bud Selig. The same inept Commissioner who allowed the Steroid Era, guaranteed contracts, too much power for players, not enough power for teams, and has resisted a salary cap.
That guy has a statue being erected in his honor outside a professional baseball park. I know that he used to own the Brewers and he moved them from Seattle in 1970 because they were bankrupt and he bought them in court. That was a smart move…after that…eh….
The only thing that ever really happened was Robin Yount and Paul Molitor falling in their laps (and those guys never won a World Series). So, what are we celebrating exactly?
Is this just a pity move to honor someone who did absolutely nothing of redeeming quality in baseball? If so, then I say forget it. We take pity on people and build them statues and put them in the Hall of Fame for no reason while there are probably under-served inner-city kids in Milwaukee who could use the money that’s going to be used to build the statue.
If I were Bud I’d refuse it…you know why? Because the PR is already bad enough. Do you think I’m the only person who’s killing this idea right now? Nope, I bet I’m just “in line” to destroy this incredibly stupid concept.
So, here’s a note to dear Bud:
Dearest Bud,
We all know you’re one of the worst commissioners in the history of time. We all know that you don’t need ANOTHER PR hit. You’ve already bungled 1994 World Series, the Steroid Era, the current CBA, and the Milwaukee Brewers. Step asides and refuse to be praised when you don’t deserve it. For all that is holy…please!
Sincerely,
The Baseball-loving World
