Phillies Sweep Nationals, Still Have Heart

by Rebekah Milsted on August 26, 2012

The Philadelphia Phillies completed a three game sweep against the Washington Nationals today. The Nationals are first place in the NL east, while the Phillies are in third place. The Nationals also have the best record In the majors.

Another big story today was that pitcher Cliff Lee received his first home win this season. He hasn’t won at Citizens Bank Park since last September. He was able to go seven innings with only giving up one run. He allowed seven hits with five strike outs.

Although the Phillies are 16.5 games out of the division, this series gave them a boost. It is unlikely that the Phillies are going to make the playoffs but They aren’t going down without a fight. They aren’t just going to give teams games. The Phillies are going to play the rest of the season the way they should have been playing all year. They are going to keep playing like they have something to play for. That’s why they are called the Fightin Phils.
