In a move that surprised nobody the Mets yesterday traded outfielder Jeff Francoeur to the Texas Rangers for Joaquin Arias. Francoeur said it will be bitter sweet. I guess the guy really liked playing on the Mets. On some levels the Mets will miss his personality, but his bat doesn’t fit into their plans. This is actually good news for Francoeur as he gets to go on the playoff bound Rangers. I have actually never heard of Arias.
For the year the right hand hitting, right fielder Francoeur is batting .237, with an OBP of .293 and he is slugging .369. I like the guy but those are some sad sad numbers. He does have 11 homeruns and 54 rbi, not as sad but still not good. Hopefully the change of scenery will give him the boast he needs and help him live up to the potential he showed as a Braves rookie hitting 29 homeruns and driving in 103 while slugging .449. Though looking at his OBP even in his best years it was only .338. Which doesn’t bode well for a career. The guy just never saw a pitch he didn’t want to swing at. He does have a great arm, a little pop and a really good personality (that sounds like something you’d say setting up somebody on a blind date.) The Mets will miss the personality but not the bat.
Oh the Mets are now two game under .500 and continue to make me sigh. Someday this team will realize it plays in the same town as the Yankees.
