All of the recent talk surrounding Jose Reyes and Carlos Beltran has been about where they will be traded to before the trade deadline.
But on Tuesday, at least in Queens, all of the talk was how both players would be returning to a struggling New York Mets lineup.
The Mets have to be particularly excited about getting Reyes back on the field, who was forced to sit out 12 games after suffering a hamstring injury. Prior to going down on July 2 with a strained left hamstring, Reyes was batting a major league-high .354 with a .398 on-base percentage. Even after missing more than two weeks, Reyes still leads the majors in triples (15) and multi-hit games (43). His 30 stolen bases rank second in the league. Read more... Even though Brandon Nimmo was drafted by the Mets in this year’s first year player draft at 13, he still has some unfinished business in the American Legion baseball program. Nimmo is still leading the way on his Cheyenne Wyoming American Legion baseball team showing why he was drafted by the Mets.
This weekend Nimmo is playing with this Cheyenne Wyoming Post 6 American Legion baseball team in the Billings, Montana Legion UAS/Fleetwood tournament. Nimmo has been helping to lead his team to wins showing all the reasons why the Mets drafted him so high. On Friday, Nimmo helped his team by blasting a huge 3 run homer to help them to an 11-6 victory over the Laurel Montana Dodgers. Read more... (322 words, 1 image, estimated 1:17 mins reading time)

With all of the financial issues that continue to plague the New York Mets off the field, there is still that tiny financial issue that they are going to have to deal with sooner or later on the field: what to do with Jose Reyes.
Reyes, who is is having a career season in the final year of a four-year, $23.25 million contract, will become a free agent by season’s end. The three-time All-Star entered play Saturday with a National League-leading .344 batting average. He ranks second in the NL with 24 steals and leads the majors with 12 triples.
Hall of Fame pitcher Tom Seaver said that the Mets need to have plan in place in order to replace Reyes. Read more... (360 words, 2 images, estimated 1:26 mins reading time)
The weekend was filled with excitement and great match ups. Verlander tossed a no hitter. The pitchers duels between the Phillies and Braves were outstanding. Derek Jeter proved he’s not finished. And I am no closer to buying the Indians as the winners of the AL Central.
In the AL East, the Yankees and Rangers squared off with each other with Yankees coming out with the Yankees taking two of three and Derek Jeter proving that he’s not finished with baseball yet. The Rays stayed tied with the Yankees for the top spot with a 4 game win streak that shoved the Orioles further into the basement. Boston moved up into 3rd place thanks to a little help from the Tigers who pushed the Blue Jays into 4th place with two losses. Read more... (572 words, 1 image, estimated 2:17 mins reading time)
Well, even Yankees great Mariano Rivera isn’t perfect. Even the sure fire, first round Hall of Famer is prone to a bad night (or two) now and then. Yesterday he had one of those bad nights against the Toronto Blue Jays. The Yankees handed Mariano a 5-3 lead going into the ninth. The Yankees felt pretty confident especially since Mo was seven for seven in save chances this year and hadn’t given up a run in 19 straight April appearances. But alas it was not to be. Mo gave up a leadoff double to Edwin Encarnacion, who moved to third on a ground out and scored on a ball four wild pitch to Jose Bautista. Adam Lind singled moving Bautista to third. The Jays then tied it with a John McDonald squeeze bunt up the first base line. That’s the thing about Mariano even when he’s off he’s not that off. Only one ball was really hit hard but the Jays played little ball right. The Jays would then win the game 6-5 in ten innings. Read more... (341 words, estimated 1:22 mins reading time)
The National League season has been fairly predictable so far. Not nearly as many surprises as in the American League.
The Phillies remain atop the NL East with a 9-4 record. The pitching is as advertised and they have been able to generate enough offense to go with it to get the wins. The dropped a game to the Marlins on Saturday with Oswalt giving up 2 runs. Their offense just isn’t showing a lot of power and in most games they don’t have to, but not being able to get more than 3 runs in a game versus the Marlins is a little troubling for Phillies fans. The Marlins are in 2nd place in the NL East with the Braves close behind in 3rd. The Nationals are next with the Mets having an abysmal start to the season at 4-11. Read more... Wow, the Mets are bad, really really really bad right now. After a some what promising 3 and 1 start, beating the Florida Marlins twice and taking the first game from the Philadelphia Phillies it has been totally down hill. They lost the next three to the Phillies: 10-7, 11-0, 6-2. They lost two out of three (6-2 and 7-3) to the Washington Nationals. They have now lost seven in a row. They were swept by the Colorado Rockies 7-6, 5-4, 6-5 and 9-4. Yesterday, they were swept in a double header by the Atlanta Braves 4-2 and 4-0. In the 4-0 game they literally ran their way out of the game. That also gives them one win out of the last ten. They have lost two straight double headers for the first time I can ever remember. Thank God for the Boston Red Sox and their 2 wins 9 losses start for .182 win percentage. If it wasn’t for that the Mets at 4 and 9 would be tied with the lowly Seattle Mariners and Houston Astros for worst record in baseball. Luckily we Mets fans can say, “heck if the Red Sox are only at two and nine and they haven’t given up hope then there is hope for our season.” We can say that, the trick is actually believing it. The Mets lost (again) to the Colorado Rockies 5-4, yesterday. Here is how the Mets fared with runners in scoring postion: Ike Davis 0-2, Dan Murphy 1-2 (our hero), Josh Thole 0-1, David Wright 0-1, Willie Harris 0-2, Jose Reyes 0-1. So all in all the New York Mets were 1-9 with runners in scoring position. That is the recipe for losing a baseball game. Read more... (322 words, estimated 1:17 mins reading time)
I had a look at the MLB Power Rankings this morning and for the life of me I cannot figure out how people come to these conclusions. The only explanation is that in a lot of these votes these teams are getting it’s fan loyalty and blindness, not reality.
The Top 10 are ranked thusly:
Rangers
Phillies
Reds
Yankees
Rockies
Red Sox
Braves
White Sox
Giants
